    July's Monthly Meeting 

    Speaker – Tyson A. Martin - CISO at Lumber Liquidators

    Topic - An overview about what we are doing to better block and tackle on the core security things we should all be doing and transforming a culture while doing so.   

    Tyson A. Martin is the creator of technology & cyber security strategies that enable key business objectives and permeate organizational culture at all levels. Tyson strongly believes that by forging strong partnerships, inside of an organization and outside of an organization, a key kinetic energy is built that reduces risk, makes an organization more resilient, and promotes innovation which increases the probability of success.

    At Lumber Liquidators Tyson is responsible for leading global information technology, cyber security and IT risk strategy.

    Prior to joining Lumber Tyson was Chief Information Security Officer for Orvis, Resorts Casino Hotel and PokerStars. Tyson has also served in various IT Security and leadership roles at The Home Depot, The Kotter Group, CWC, Best Buy and Staples. Outside of the office, Tyson is an active member in the cyber security industry. He has been an executive committee member for the National Retail Federations CISO Council since 2015 and is also a contributor to NIST National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence projects and a part of several PCI Special Interest Groups.

    Tyson completed the CISO Executive Program at Carnegie Mellon University and is now an advisory board member for the Master of Science in Information Security & Assurance program at Norwich University.

    Chapter Board Members are calling for a nomination committee for the upcoming term elections.  The Chapter Bylaws require 5 Regular members to form the committee.  Please contact a current board member if you are interesting in participating on the nomination committee.

    The raffle ticket fundraiser for the Chapter kicks off during the July chapter meeting. Valued at $99.99.   No limit on the number of tickets you can aquire though donations. Membership not required to participate.

    COVITS is the familiar name for the Commonwealth of Virginia Innovative Technology Symposium. This event now is in its 21st year. It is a valued annual gathering of Virginia's government information technology (IT) leaders.

    COVITS provides a practical glimpse into the future of government IT solutions. Attendees focus on strategic direction. The event features inspiring speakers, relevant breakout sessions and a marketplace of innovative tools. 

    The Advisory Board has chosen keynote speakers. It is now in the process of choosing additional speakers and workshops for COVITS 2019. Check the website for updated information.
